What is new in version 0.4.0

  • Lots of cards got changed. Read carefully the card texts even on the cards you think you know well :).
    • If you wish, you can see the current list of beings here.
  • There is a new setup:
    • You can switch between Quest and Deathmatch mode now (see rules for Deathmatch bellow).
    • The game now can be played also with three or four players! In this case, only Deathmatch is available.
      • I recommend three players rather than four, this mode was intended for three players. However, the four player games I tried were interesting, too, so I let this option open.
    • You can also change some parameters (but I recommend to use the default ones).
  • There are new Reinforcement cards. Each card still has two conditions, but now, the conditions are same on all cards (differs just by the values):
    • The first condition is always difference between total number of opponent and your pieces (regardless of level).
    • The second condition is always difference between total number of opponent and your upgraded pieces, but legendary piece count twice for this purpose.
      • Example: If you have two legendary beings and no heroic, and the opponent has one legendary and five heroic, he is stronger by three (7 vs. 4).
  • Slight changes in the Quest mode:
    • The next quest is revealed by default. It cannot be fulfilled, but you see what comes next.
    • Quests now have names and types (icon in the left upper corner).
    • There cannot be three quests of the same type visible (the newest one is replaced if this happens).
    • There are two new quests (Line Dominance and Isolation). Pay extra attention to them and let me know if you like or dislike them.
  • Minor improvement of the gameplay and game log.
    • The spaces where a player summoned a being now shine a bit until end of his turn.
    • The logs are more detailed - I recommend to read them during the game, so you understand the new rules better.
  • Extensive statistics. Everything you do is now stored and will be evaluated for balancing purposes.
    • Please finish your games. Unfinished games do not contribute to statistics.
    • Fight to the end. Try for the best scores even when losing. If you just click through the rest of the game, the statistics will be deceiving.
    • Try different factions and different modes. If you played a duel and want to play again, you can switch the factions (so you will play against the one you had before).

Deathmatch Mode - brief rules for 2 player game

  • Before the game, the other than starting player setups one piece of each player at predefined positions.
  • You take turns and play your actions following the same rules as in the Quest mode, except there is Victory Point track instead of Quests.
  • All enemy pieces you destroy during you turn are set aside, and they are scored at the end of your turn (and then returned back to the opponent's reserve):
    • You score 2 Victory points for each enemy Legendary being you destroyed.
    • You score 1 Victory point for each enemy Heroing being you destroyed.
    • You score ½ Victory point for each enemy Common being you destroyed. That means, you need to destroy at least two to get some points for them. The odd points are lost.
    • Clarification of the points for destroyed beings:
      • You neither score nor lose points for your own beings you destroy.
      • Enemy tokens removed because you converted them to your color count as destroyed.
      • Downgraded enemy tokens do not count as destroyed, unless they were common and the downgrade destroyed them.
  • In addition, you score 1 Victory point whenever you cast a Legendary being.
    • Note the point is for casting the being, so you get the point even if you have all Legendary pieces on the board (and thus have to remove some).
    • On the other hand, you do not get the point if you upgrade your piece to a legendary one by other means.
  • In addition, you score 1 Victory point whenever your opponent plays a Reinforcement (light blue) card.
    • It is one point, regardless of whether the opponent used basic or full effect.
    • Pieces destroyed during play of the Reinforcement card do count towards your victory points.
    • Note: you may hesitate to play your Reinfocement because of this, but it is usually worth it, as it gets you back into the game.
  • The end of the game is triggered when one player reaches the Victory points limit (25 by default) or when one player draws last card of his faction deck.
    • As with the quest game, each player then has one last turn.
  • The winner is the player with most Victory points.
    • In case of a tie, the one with more Legendary pieces is the winner.
    • If there is still a tie, the one with more Heroic pieces is the winner.
    • If there is still a tie, the one with more Common pieces is the winner.

Deathmatch Mode - differences for 3 player or 4 player game

  • All players take turns and play actions as in two player Deathmatch game.
  • Players do not have a single Victory point token. Instead, they have as many Victory point tokens as there are opponents (one in each opponent's color).
  • When scoring for destroyed beings, you score in each color separately.
    • Exception: If you have odd common tokens left in more than one color, you can combine them to one victory point of one of their colors.
      • (Example: You destroy three red and one blue common piece. You score one red point for the two red tokens, and then you choose whether to score one more red point or one blue point for the remaining tokens.)
  • When scoring for Legendary beings, you can choose to score 1 point in any color for each summoned Legendary being.
  • When you play a Reinforcement card, you compare your strength against any opponent you choose. This decides whether you can play the card and whether you can use its basic or full effect.
    • This opponent gets one Victory point in your color.
    • If the card allows you to do something with opponent pieces (replace, destroy, convert, downgrade), it applies only to pieces of this player.
  • The game ends if any player exceeds his Victory point track by any color of Victory points (or draws his last Faction cards).
    • Each player, including this one, then has one last turn.
  • The winner is the player with most Victory points in his worst color.
    • In case of a tie, the second worst color decides etc.
    • If there is still a tie, the one with more Legendary pieces is the winner.
    • If there is still a tie, the one with more Heroic pieces is the winner.
    • If there is still a tie, the one with more Common pieces is the winner.
